Jovsi Natural Park
Jovsi is a 460 ha extensive area of marshy meadows along the Sotla River in Kapelske gorice. It is protected as a natural monument and a site of the Natura 2000 network of nature protection areas. Due to its natural resources and extensive agriculture, many rare and endangered plant and animal species have found their habitat here. Several important European bird species live here permanently or occasionally: the white-tailed eagle, the European roller, the black stork, the white stork, the common snipe, the corncrake, and the lesser grey shrike. The regulated Šica River and former oxbow lakes are spawning grounds for several species of amphibians, while the large copper butterfly lives on the riparian flora.Among the 132 plant species are some that are very rare: the adder's-tongue, the marsh lax-flowered orchid, the rootless duckweed, and the hairlike pondweed.
